Soooo what's with that name?
Okay, here's the deal. Around 1984, Pat was going to school in the Chicago area. During this time the local free weekly, the Chicago Reader, did a cover story on homelessness. At one point in the story they talked to a gentleman who'd been living on the street for some years and asked what he thought about the city's efforts to help out the homeless population. It's been 20 years, so we're paraphrasing a bit here, but his remarks went something like this:
"Aw, the mayor talks all the time about how worried she is about us. Says she's gonna build shelters and set up soup kitchens and health clinics. Man, that's just a bunch of TALL STATIC."
Pat had never heard that term before, and he's never heard it since. It has always impressed him as an incredibly cool way of saying, essentially: baloney, poppycock (choose your own variant...heh). And he has always wanted to use Tall Static for a band name.
So, you know, here we are.
P.S. – Much appreciation to the members of the first Tall Static incarnation, circa 2004-2005: Rod Furlott, J.D. Wright and Tom Szklarz.
